The "Kopphaff" in Wickrange is situated right next to the new shopping centre on the motorway to Esch. It is a family-run business with a long tradition, founded as far back as 1849 and passed down from generation to generation ever since. For many years, the farm produced milk and pork, until Marco Clemes brought the first Limousin cattle to the farm in 1972. Today, his grandson Ben Majerus runs the farm with the same passion for the Limousin breed, for which he also travels internationally as a judge. Under his leadership, the farm has found a clear direction and has deliberately distanced itself from industrial mass production. The focus remains on Limousin breeding; in addition, pigs and a few sheep were reintroduced almost ten years ago, always in line with the motto: not bigger, but different.
At the heart of the "Kopphaff" lies animal welfare, which Ben Majerus consistently prioritises. From spring to autumn, the animals graze in the pastures; their feed comes mainly from the farm’s own production and consists exclusively of GMO-free ingredients. The Limousin cattle are the centrepiece of the farm, where breeding plays an important role alongside meat production. The pigs were added in 2018, when a little dream of Ben’s wife Mara came true and the first two Bentheimers arrived on the farm – a rare and hardy breed with plenty of meat on their bones. The free-range pigs perfectly complement the range of meat on offer. For Ben Majerus, it is not about quantity, but about the quality and welfare of his animals, in harmony with nature.
For years, Ben Majerus has also focused on selling his own produce directly to the public, starting with meat from Limousin cattle; the range has since been expanded to include products from Bentheimer pigs. Sales take place via a small farm shop, which is open 24 hours a day. As a founding member of the “Fro de Bauer” initiative, Ben Majerus considers direct contact with consumers to be particularly important, as it builds trust and transparency. Through their conscious purchasing, customers support animal-friendly husbandry and fair, reasonable prices. The Kopphaff farm in Wickrange also participates, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, in initiatives such as “LetzFarm”, thereby opening its doors to school groups to introduce children to farming.
